A UK government spokesperson confirmed the incident affected a small generator and said “at no point was there a risk to the wider energy system.” The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero reportedly contacted power companies to warn them about the risk of cyberattacks. No official body, including the National Cyber Security Centre, has formally attributed the attack, and the technical details have not been made public.
Security researchers flagged the incident as significant. Analysts at Dragos and Huntress noted that the disruption was less about the size of the plant and more about a cyberattack producing four days of real-world operational impact, warning that such intrusions can often be repeated at scale across distributed energy assets.
