The United Arab Emirates reported that its air defenses are actively intercepting Iranian ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, with explosions from interceptions heard across affected areas. These developments follow earlier attacks, including a strike on an oil facility that the UAE attributes to Iran. In response, the UAE has restricted flights and activated emergency protocols. The escalation comes amid tensions surrounding efforts by the United States to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the recent exchanges, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that a ceasefire with Iran remains in effect, emphasizing that the US is not seeking further conflict. However, he warned that any Iranian attack on US forces or commercial shipping would trigger a strong response. Military officials reported multiple Iranian actions since the ceasefire, including attacks on commercial vessels and the seizure of two container ships, though these incidents have not yet led to a return to full-scale combat. US forces remain on high alert, maintaining close coordination with shipping operators and prepared to escalate if necessary.

The ceasefire appears fragile and is likely being sustained largely by US efforts to prevent further escalation rather than by genuine de-escalation between the parties. At the same time, the UAE is unlikely to respond passively, particularly given its recent frustration with what it sees as insufficient international support in other conflicts, which may harden its موقف and increase pressure for a stronger response. Compounding this, US ambitions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by force remain risky, as such a move would almost certainly provoke Iran and could quickly unravel the ceasefire, pushing the situation back toward open conflict.
