Information
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has denied allegations that his police forces used a banned sonic weapon, known as a Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD), to disperse protesters in Belgrade. He dismissed the accusations as a “vile lie” and stated that while he has seen such a weapon used abroad, no such sound was heard in Belgrade. Despite denying the claims, Vucic announced an investigation into the matter but also suggested that those spreading the allegations should be prosecuted. Eyewitnesses reported a sudden piercing noise during a moment of silence at the protest, which military analyst Aleksandar Radic claimed was characteristic of an LRAD. The Belgrade Center for Security Policy condemned the alleged use of the weapon, calling it an attempt to incite chaos and delegitimize the protests, while also pointing out that its use is illegal under Serbian law.
The protests in Belgrade are the largest in Serbia’s history, with attendance estimates ranging from 100,000 to over 500,000 people. The demonstrations, led by students, were initially triggered by the deaths of 15 people in Novi Sad due to a train station roof collapse but have since grown into a broader movement against President Vucic’s government. Protesters are demanding accountability and raising concerns over corruption, nepotism, voter fraud, media control, and government mismanagement. In response to the unrest, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Novi Sad Mayor Milan Djuric have resigned, but tensions remain high as calls for further government accountability continue.

So what
There are several clear videos demonstrating the use of a weapon that caused thousands of people to flee down a specific street during a 15-minute period of silence. Additionally, the videos show police leaving the area just moments before the weapon was deployed. While it’s possible that the weapon did not utilize sound to disperse the protesters, it seems highly likely that something was used against the crowd.
