Information
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has issued a stern warning to the United States against permitting Ukraine to launch attacks on targets within Russia, emphasizing the potentially “fatal consequences” of such actions. Ryabkov’s remarks echo recent statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who expressed concern over NATO countries relaxing restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western weapons, suggesting that these actions could lead to a broader global conflict.
Putin has argued that any strikes on Russian territory using Western weapons would directly involve NATO countries, as Ukraine would require extensive satellite, intelligence, and military support to carry out these operations. In response to these developments, Ryabkov has urged US leaders to carefully consider the implications of their decisions, suggesting that a light-hearted approach could have severe consequences.
Ryabkov has also stated that any attempts by Ukraine to attack Russian early-warning radar systems would be thwarted, and Moscow could respond with asymmetric measures to counter such threats. This comes as the United States and Germany have indicated their willingness to allow Ukraine to use weapons they provide to target specific locations within Russia.

So what
This is not the first “red line” that Russia has warned the West not to cross, and it is likely not to be the last. Despite their threats, it is highly unlikely that Russia would strike any NATO forces, US or otherwise, as this would trigger Article 5 and result in a direct conflict. It is more likely that this is just further talk to scare Western voters away from the continued support of Ukraine, a clear sign that it is affecting the battlefield. The ability to use medium-ranged weapons on Russian targets in Russia will likely significantly reduce Russia’s ability to operate as they will need to move supplies and troops further back, stretching supply lines and reducing their effectiveness.
