Poland Busts Russian Military Supply Ring

Polish authorities have arrested six people accused of illegally shipping military components to Russia, four of whom have been charged with espionage.

Investigators say the group supplied Moscow with significant quantities of parts used to make ammunition and weapons systems, despite an embargo. Intelligence coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak said the suspects are five Poles aged 25 to 52 and a 37-year-old Russian woman. “Russia is subject to a strict embargo in this area, and this operation was designed to circumvent it,” he told reporters.

Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) said four suspects, including the Russian woman, were placed in pretrial detention for three months. The other two face non-custodial restrictions. All six are also accused of breaching rules on the trade in goods and technology of strategic importance to national defense.

Siemoniak said nearly 100 people have been charged in ABW espionage and sabotage cases since January 2024. Poland is the main transit route for Western military aid to Ukraine. The Kremlin denies running sabotage operations in NATO countries.

So What
This case blurs the line between spying and sanctions evasion. The espionage charges could mean the network also passed information to Russian handlers. They could also show that Warsaw is choosing to treat smuggling as a security threat. Either way, Russia is likely relying on small, deniable buying networks inside NATO to keep its arms industry supplied. With nearly 100 people charged since 2024, Poland remains one of Moscow’s most active intelligence fronts.
