Information
Germany’s federal prosecutor has charged a former aide to Maximilian Krah, a member of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), and a Chinese national with espionage for allegedly working on behalf of Chinese intelligence. Jian G., a German citizen and former assistant to Krah in the European Parliament, is accused of accessing over 500 sensitive EU documents and providing intelligence on internal negotiations. He is also suspected of spying on senior AfD figures Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla. Authorities searched Krah’s Brussels office, though prosecutors emphasized it was only as a witness action. Krah responded by expressing hope that a trial would clarify whether he had been misled.
In a parallel development, a Chinese woman employed at a logistics company at Leipzig/Halle airport was arrested for allegedly passing information about military-related flights and cargo to Jian G. She is also suspected of acting as an agent for Chinese intelligence. Additionally, three more individuals were arrested in Düsseldorf and Bad Homburg on suspicion of using research to gather military technology data for Beijing. While Krah has distanced himself from the accused, AfD leaders have offered minimal comment, and China has denied involvement, calling the allegations defamatory.

So What
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to people anymore, as it’s nearly certain that this is just one of many cells currently operating in Europe. However, it serves as a timely reminder of the risks that exist. While the arrest of these individuals may lead to the uncovering of more members within the network, it is likely that German intelligence has already invested time in identifying additional suspects. Nonetheless, it is highly probable that there are more individuals working for hostile intelligence networks throughout Europe, indicating that there is still significant work to be done.
