Information
Pakistan has passed a revised Iranian proposal to the United States aimed at ending the Middle East conflict, with Pakistani officials warning that time is running out to resolve major disagreements. Iran confirmed that its position had been relayed through Pakistan, though details were not disclosed. A fragile ceasefire has held since April after six weeks of fighting triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran, but negotiations have stalled. President Donald Trump has warned Iran that “the clock is ticking” and is reportedly considering renewed military action. The US wants Iran to dismantle its nuclear program and ease disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran is demanding compensation for war damage, guarantees against future attacks, and the restoration of oil exports.
Tensions remain high despite reduced hostilities. Iran has continued launching drones toward Gulf states hosting US bases, including attacks linked to fires and interceptions in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The conflict has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, causing a major global oil supply crisis and driving oil prices sharply higher, which has also unsettled financial markets and increased inflation concerns. Trump faces growing domestic political pressure ahead of the US midterm elections, as rising fuel costs and fears of wider war could hurt Republican support.

So What
President Donald Trump has continued to project a hardline stance toward Iran, but his actual leverage over Tehran appears increasingly limited. He now likely faces two politically damaging options: accepting a weak agreement that falls short of US objectives and risks appearing as a major strategic retreat, or escalating back toward military conflict, which could prove difficult domestically given the possibility that Congress may seek to restrict further military action through the War Powers Act. This leaves the administration in a constrained position where both diplomatic compromise and renewed confrontation carry significant political and strategic costs.
