Zelenskyy in UK for ‘victory plan’ support

Information

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in London to discuss Ukraine’s ongoing fight against Russia’s full-scale invasion. The meetings centred on the type of support Ukraine needs as it continues to resist Russian advances. While the UK emphasized its stance on supporting Ukraine’s right to defend itself, including potential strikes within Russian territory, it maintained its position on the use of long-range Storm Shadow missiles, stating that no single weapon would determine the outcome of the conflict. Rutte echoed the UK’s stance, emphasizing that individual NATO members would decide on their contributions regarding long-range weapons.

Following these meetings in London, Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit Paris to hold discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, and he will later meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. These diplomatic engagements aim to rally European support and secure additional resources for Ukraine’s defence efforts. Zelenskyy had initially planned to outline his “plan for victory” against Russia at a meeting in Germany, but it was postponed due to U.S. President Joe Biden’s need to address the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. The diplomatic tour highlights Zelenskyy’s efforts to strengthen ties with key NATO allies amid ongoing hostilities with Russia.

So what

While no details have been confirmed about the plan, it has been positively received by world leaders so far. However, at the same time, there are rumours that Ukraine has proposed a ceasefire in Ukraine that would set the borders as they currently are and allow them to receive security guarantees alongside EU membership, though it is highly unlikely Russia would agree to this.
