The United States has authorized the departure of non-emergency embassy staff and their families from Israel due to rising safety risks amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The US Embassy in Jerusalem said the move was approved by the State Department and advised American citizens to consider leaving Israel while commercial flights remain available. The tensions come as President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened military action against Iran if negotiations over its nuclear program fail. Although Trump expressed frustration with Iran’s stance in ongoing talks, he said he had not yet decided whether to launch an attack. Iran has warned it would target American bases in the region if attacked and could also carry out missile strikes against Israel.
In response to the growing instability, several countries have updated their travel advisories and withdrawn staff from parts of the region. Germany and France have urged their citizens not to travel to Israel, citing security concerns, while China advised its citizens in Israel to remain vigilant and prepare for emergencies, and encouraged those in Iran to leave as soon as possible. The United Kingdom also temporarily withdrew its embassy staff from Iran. These measures reflect mounting international concern over the potential for wider conflict.

While embassy evacuations and related precautionary measures do not guarantee imminent military operations, most traditional indicators associated with a pending strike appear to be in place, including a regional buildup of US air support assets at levels comparable to those seen prior to the invasion of Iraq. The most unpredictable variable remains President Trump, whose decision-making could ultimately accelerate, postpone, or entirely redirect the course of events.
