Information
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited London on Tuesday, meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, alongside NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. Starmer stressed the importance of maintaining international focus on Ukraine despite the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Zelenskyy briefed Starmer on battlefield developments, energy security, and diplomatic efforts with the US and Russia, before addressing British lawmakers in Parliament. He announced that Ukraine is now producing around 2,000 interceptor drones per day and can supply half that number to allies, while also noting that more than 200 Ukrainian air defense specialists have already been deployed to the Middle East, including the Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
The two leaders also announced a new UK-Ukraine defense and industrial partnership centered on the joint production of drones and other military technologies. As part of the agreement, the UK will contribute 500,000 pounds toward a new AI center of excellence in Kyiv, where experts will work to identify how artificial intelligence can best be applied for battlefield advantage. Zelenskyy also revealed that Ukraine is developing underwater-capable drones. His London visit is part of a broader European tour, with a stop in Spain to follow, as European allies continue to reaffirm their support for Ukraine.

So What
While Starmer’s stance will likely displease Trump, it is probably the most appropriate course of action for both the UK and Europe. Despite American pressure, the primary concern for European nations remains the conflict in Ukraine. These nations may not have the resources or capacity to effectively address two significant conflicts at the same time. Additionally, although Ukraine is currently achieving success on the battlefield, the continuous flow of revenue to Russia from its oil exports is a major concern. These funds could be used to strengthen Russia’s military capabilities and counterbalance the gains made by Ukraine.
