Unfortunately, it appears likely that this couple has become victims of the political struggle between the governments of Iran and the UK. While it’s likely that they will eventually be released, Iran will likely seek something in return from the UK government, as is often the case in such situations. It’s noteworthy that the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) was responsible for arresting the couple; this seems uncommon and likely indicates that the arrest was part of a deliberate plan. It is almost certain that this situation will escalate diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
