In a decisive move to enhance Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, G7 foreign ministers have pledged to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence system. This commitment was made in response to a recent Russian missile attack in the Dnipropetrovsk region that resulted in the loss of eight lives. The ministers from Italy, the United States, the UK, France, Canada, and Germany expressed a unified resolve to enhance Ukraine’s ability to protect its citizens and critical infrastructure. Additionally, they discussed the potential use of frozen Russian assets to further aid Ukraine in its ongoing conflict.
During their meeting in Capri, Italy, the G7 foreign ministers, along with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, outlined specific measures to assist Ukraine amid Russian aggression. Kuleba emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the Western nations possess the necessary resources to prevent a larger European conflict. The group reaffirmed their steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, praising the resilience and bravery of the Ukrainian people in their fight for democracy and freedom.

So what
Regardless of whether you support supplying Ukraine with lethal aid, it should be clear that supplying them with air defence is the right thing to do. It appears highly likely that without an immediate increase in support, Russia will continue to gain ground in Eastern Ukraine. An increase in air defence would allow Ukraine to defend key strategic locations and civilian infrastructure and also conduct strikes on Russian air assets as they have in the past.
