Information
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron are among the European leaders attending this year’s European Political Community (EPC) summit in the UK. Established in 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the summit aims to unite all 47 European states—27 EU members and 20 non-EU states—to address shared political and security challenges. This year’s summit marks the first time that NATO, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Council of Europe will participate, highlighting its growing significance in the European political landscape.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is expected to attend the summit in the UK, although his participation has not been officially confirmed. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is likely to miss the event due to a critical vote that will determine her continuation as the head of the EU executive for the next five years. Previous EPC meetings in the Czech Republic, Moldova, and Spain have been instrumental in fostering European unity in support of Ukraine, demonstrating the summit’s role in addressing urgent geopolitical issues.

So what
It is highly likely that this meeting will focus heavily on the conflict in Ukraine as they appear to be at a critical point. There is a possibiltiy that European leaders will try to convince Ukraine that they should agree to give Russia some land in exchange for peace. However, the only possiblity of this being accepted would be that it allows Ukraine to join NATO (to prevent any further invasion), though it is unlikely that Russia will accept that at this stage.
