Donald Trump’s legal team has formally requested a New York judge to lift a gag order that was imposed on the former president during his criminal trial in New York. The gag order was put in place to prevent Trump from commenting on witnesses, jurors, and other individuals associated with the case, following his repeated attacks on prosecutors and likely witnesses on social media. During the trial, Trump was found guilty of falsifying records to conceal a potential sex scandal, making him the first former US president to be convicted. He was fined $10,000 and faced jail threats for violating the order on ten occasions.
Trump’s lawyers, Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, argue that the First Amendment rights of Trump, who is a leading candidate in the 2024 presidential election, should be unrestrained. They believe that the concerns that led to the gag order no longer apply now that the trial has concluded. They also argue that Trump should be allowed “unrestrained campaign advocacy” ahead of the first presidential election TV debate on June 27, especially in light of President Joe Biden’s recent characterization of Trump as a “convicted felon.” The lawyers have sought clarity on when the gag order will be lifted, whether it will be after the verdict or after the sentencing on July 11.
Despite the request to lift the gag order, Trump has continued to operate under the assumption that he’s still muzzled, refraining from making public comments about the case. The judge has yet to specify when the gag order will be lifted, and the legal team is awaiting clarification on this matter.

So what
Trump is doing an incredible job with his information campaign and it is likely he wants the gag order removed to allow him to freely comment on the case. Regardless of the result and its fallout, Trump has used information warfare to create a situation where he can do no wrong, if he wasn’t found guilty, then he claims it was a witch hunt all along, and when he was found guilty he just claims the same. I feel this is the type of propaganda operation that will be studied going forward as he has truly controlled the narrative.
