Behind the scenes, Vice President JD Vance has been communicating with Pakistani intermediaries, and Trump indicated he was open to a ceasefire deal, saying there was “a very good chance” an agreement could be reached.

While Trump’s signals toward a swift exit and ceasefire deal are broadly positive, it is possible that this represents a deliberate posture ahead of further offensive action, though this remains unlikely. The most probable outcome is that both Iran and the United States have reached an understanding they can both accept, and are now managing the conditions for an end to the conflict. That said, if the United States has not achieved meaningful regime change in practice, Iran will almost certainly frame any agreement as a strategic victory, reinforcing rather than reversing its established posture in the region.
