Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that an explosion that damaged a key railway line between Lublin and Warsaw over the weekend was an “unprecedented” act of sabotage aimed at Poland’s security and its civilians. He emphasised that the route is vital for transporting aid to Ukraine, underscoring Poland’s role as a central hub for Western military and humanitarian support since Russia’s 2022 invasion. Tusk stressed the seriousness of the incident and vowed that authorities would capture those responsible.
Polish government ministers later confirmed that an explosive device had been deliberately detonated on the tracks, with another probable act of sabotage also under investigation. Officials reported that substantial evidence had been collected and that the military was inspecting a large stretch of track leading to the Ukrainian border. Special Services Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said the perpetrators were likely acting under foreign intelligence orders. The damaged line, used daily by 115 trains, is considered strategically significant amid rising concerns about Russia-linked sabotage attempts.
